The contubernium was the smallest organized unit of soldiers in the Roman Army and was comprised of eight legionaries, comparable to the modern squad. Two "servants" (actually comparable to modern support troops) were assigned to each contubernium. They were responsible for the care of the pack mules, making sure the legionaries had water during the march and often had special skills like blacksmithing or carpentry. Ten contubernia were grouped into a centuria. Soldiers of a contubernium shared a tent, and were rewarded or punished together. This 15mm tent is designed to be used as a baggage element for any Roman army camp and fits on a standard 40x40mm DBM baggage base. It's accurately sized according to the sources that all agree it was 10 by 10 roman feet, and 5 feet tall.

15LEG is available in three finish: simple plain cast, as it comes out of the mold; cleaned and primed, based and ready to paint; or as a finished DBM baggage element, painted, based and flocked to the very same standard you see in the picture!

This is a variation of the basic legionary tent. 15LEG has fine grooves designed to catch the color when you wash the model with a dark shade, these grooves can also be used as guides to glue actual strings in place.
15LEG-b comes with raised lines instead, which are designed to catch the color when you drybrush a light tone. It is also shown open on one side. In all other respects it is the same as 15leg.

this is the Praetorium, the legionary camp HQ tent. 15prt is based on the relief of Trajan column and other similar references and it's sized to be as large as possible to still fit on a single 40x40 base. In a legionary camp there would be several other tents like this as well as for the general's HQ, each military Tribune and each Prefect would have his own.

15PRT is available in two finish: simple plain cast, as it comes out of the mold; or cleaned, based and primed, ready to paint. We regret we are unable to offer this item as a stock finished element, painted and based. However we may occasionally offer some painted and based sample as promotion on e-bay; just let us know if you want to receive a short note when this happens.
We do accept commission painting on this item, we can paint it to your description and requirements. The time required would be approximately six weeks for a 1-8 elements order. 28mm Roman Legionary Tents AVAILABLE NOW!

this is the 28mm version of the standard legionary camp tent. It is based on the latest research and interpretation of historical sources. It's accurately sized according to the sources that agree it was 10 by 10 roman feet, and 5 feet tall. In a legionary camp there would be several hundreds tents like this as well as larger ones for the centurions, and even bigger yet for the general's HQ, each military Tribune and each Prefect.

Please be aware that if you base this model on a 60mm frontage baggage base you won't be able to put two side by side.
The best way to deal with this is to base them on alternating single 60mm and doublesize 120mm bases, as shown here. As you can see the actual model does fit on a standard 60mm baggage base, but it is so close to the edge that it would look silly if you put two next to each other... This way the basing will be compatible with the most common rules around.
Like all our models this is a historically accurate reproduction with plenty of beautifully sculpted surface detail to help you in painting and it's made of very tough POLYURETHANE.
28LEG is available only as plain cast, with a flat sanded bottom but otherwise as it comes out of the mold.
