15mm East Frankish AVAILABLE NOW!

After the death of Emperor Louis the Pious his sons divided the Carolingian Empire of the Franks into East, West, and Middle Kingdoms by the Verdun treaty. The eastern half of the Frankish empire was called East Francia (Regnum Francorum orientalium), also known as the Kingdom of the East Franks or Francia Orientalis. All parts remained under the rule of the Carolingian dynasty with Louis' eldest son Lothair I (795-855) retaining the Imperial title, but Carolingian rule was relatively brief before a High-German-speaking Teutonic ruling class was established. Around 900, East Francia saw the reemergence of autonomous stem duchies (Franconia, Bavaria, Swabia, Saxony and Lotharingia). After the Carolingian king Louis the Child died without issue in 911, East Francia did not turn to the Carolingian ruler of West Francia to take over the realm but elected one of the dukes, Conrad of Franconia, as Rex Francorum Orientalum. It was the precursor of the Holy Roman Empire and eventually evolved into modern Germany.

This range has been sculpted by M. Campagna and currently cover all core troops.
We plan to expand it even further very soon with the addition of new packs, including crossbowmen!

15mm Frankonian or Lotharingian Mounted Command

The Kingdom crown was elective rather than hereditary, which led to all kinds of strife between rival claimants. Frontiers were often challenged and there were frequent internal wars between rival coalitions of nobles. These figures can represent any of these leaders and their bodyguards.

15mm Frankish Milites Charging with lance overarm (Separate horse, riders and lances)

Normally heavy cavalry of this time would charge in a solid line with the horses as closed to each other as possible and lance leveled, but when facing a solid shieldwall or chasing broken opponents they would instead attack in small groups hurling their lances from a distance.

15mm Swabian or Bavarian (Separate horse and riders)

Code: BRT1
15mm Breton Cavalry

The "Armorican" peninsula came to be settled with Britons from Britain during the poorly documented period of the 5th-7th centuries. When Vikings or Northmen settled in the area in the ninth and early tenth centuries these regions came to be known as Normandy and the name Armorica fell out of use. Western Armorica eventually evolved into Brittany, while the east became the Breton March under a Frankish marquis. The native Armoric Breton were skilled horsemen and their standard weapon was the javelin, which they continued to use well after neighbouring Nortmans and French took to charging with the lance.

15mm Norman Light and Heavy Crossbowmen
(Supplied with separate crossbows)

Known since ancient times but fallen in disuse in Europe after the end of the Roman Empire, by the end of the first millennium the crossbow was growing back in popularity. Two of our figures have almost no armour (one has an helmet) and are more suitable for skirmishing roles or second line troops, while the other two both wear heavy armour (one padded and one chainmail) and represent first rank line troops. All use early crossbows models suitable for up to the 12th Century. There is one bow modeled without the stirrup which is for the figure spanning the weapon (the stirrup is molded on his foot). The slightly larger and longer bow is for the figure with the padded armour (the others won't fit on him).

15mm Frankish Archers

The Bayuex Tapestry illustrates many archers in battle, their role made peraphs most famous by the commonly held opinion that Harold was killed by an arrow through the eye. While this may not necessarily be the actual case in this particular instance, it still speaks volumes about the effectiveness of these troops on the battlefield!
