15mm NEW-KINGDOM EGYPTIAN 1543 BC - 1069 BC AVAILABLE NOW!

NEW-KINGDOM EGYPTIAN 1543 BC-1069 BC

This period starts with Kamose's revolt against the Hyksos and ends with the death of Ramesses XI, at the end of whose reign Nubia had been lost, the remainder of the south had come under the control of the High Priests of Amun at Thebes, and the north was disputed by Libyan-influenced petty kings. New Kingdom Egyptian armies added massed chariotry to the already sophisticated infantry tactics of the Middle Kingdom. Nevertheless, in contrast to the Canaanites, the Egyptians continued to rely heavily on their infantry, although both Thutmose III at Megiddo and Ramesses II at Kadesh berate their foot for lack of discipline. Famous generals of this period include Rameses II (1279-1213BC) whose "victory" at Kadesh was somewhat over-rated, Rameses III (1184-1153BC) who beat off invasions first by the Libyans and later by the Sea Peoples, and Thutmose III (1479-1425BC). Early New-Kingdom infantry are often shown running with an axe in the right hand, a spear in the left and a small shield slung behind one shoulder. Later ones have larger shields and wear body armour. After about 1200BC, Libyan and Sherden mercenaries were included and later Sea Peoples were often employed.

This range has been realized by Red Copper Miniatures, based on their own study and research before sculpting. The handmade individual design and 3D printing technology allows them to develop their own characteristic style, versatile for 15mm and 28mm, with great detail and functionality, but without losing the personality of each model. Red Copper Miniatures models combine respect for historical rigor and the freshness and epic of attractive designs, with new, varied, dynamic and unique poses.
We print them on demand with very high definition machines using our own blend of different resins to achieve superb detail and
plastic like material properties.

Red Copper Miniatures are LARGE 15mm that would mix well with Xyston and Legio Heroica (sometime referred to as 18mm).
If you prefer we can reduce them in size to "standard" 15mm to match our own or Essex miniatures!

Also available as 1:72 or 28mm on demand!

Rameses II as leader of the New-Kingdom Egyptian army

The battle of Kadesh is generally dated to 1274 BC and is the earliest pitched battle in recorded history for which details of tactics and formations are known. It is believed to have been the largest chariot battle ever fought, involving between 5,000 and 6,000 chariots in total. There is much debate about the details but one thing everyone agree about is that Rameses in person did lead the Egyptian army into battle!

Pack include one 15mm chariot (1 chariot + two different horse + Ramses + 1 driver):

New-Kingdom Egyptian light chariots

Chariots were used as fast and stable platform for archers and constituted the most elite force of the ancient Egyptian military. In field battle they usually delivered the first strike and were closely followed by infantry advancing to exploit the resulting breakthrough, somewhat similar to how infantry might operate behind a group of armed vehicles in modern warfare.
Chariots, much faster than foot-soldiers, were also employed to pursue and disperse broken enemies to seal the victory. Egyptian light chariots were pulled by two cloth armor covered horses and carried one driver and one noble warrior, as well as spare bows, arrows, javelins and spear.

Pack include one random pick out of three different variations of 15mm two-man chariot (1 chariot + two different horse + 1 archer + 1 driver):

New-Kingdom Egyptian bowmen

The bow is one of ancient Egypt's most crucial weapons, used from Predynastic times well into the Christian and Islamic periods. The first bows were made of wood, had a single curvature and were strung with animal sinews or strings made of plant fiber. These were used to fire reed arrows fletched with three feathers and tipped with flint or bronze. During the New Kingdom the composite bow came into use, having been introduced by the Asiatic Hyksos. Often these bows were not made in Egypt itself but imported from the Middle East, like other 'modern' weapons. A difficult weapon to use successfully, it demanded strength, dexterity and years of practice.

New-Kingdom Egyptian - Nubian spearmen

Before the New Kingdom, the Egyptian armies were composed of conscripted peasants and artisans, who would then mass under the banner of the pharaoh. These soldiers carried a simple armament consisting of a spear with a copper spearhead and a large wooden shield covered by leather hides. Cheap to mass produce and simple to use, during the New Kingdom it remained the weapon of choice for conscripted and mercenary troops. This does not means it was regarded as an inferior weapon however, it was appreciated enough to be depicted in the hands of Ramesses III himself, killing a Libyan!

Nubian skirmishers

The Egyptian army is estimated to have had over 100,000 soldiers at the time of Ramesses II c. 1300 BC. This number included also Libyans, Nubians, Canaanite and Sherdens who all served in the Egyptian army organized into companies divided by nationality, generally commanded by Egyptian officers. They are generally described as mercenaries but some may have been prisoners of war who preferred the life of the mercenary soldier to that of a slave.

Libyan warband

Libyans seem to have been of little concern to the powerful, expansive, and militaristic Egyptian state but in the 13th and 12th centuries B.C. there lead repeated attempts (often partially successful) to invade and occupy Egypt’s western and even central Delta. These invasions may have ultimately failed, but by 1200 BC, substantial numbers of Libyan and Sherden mercenaries were supplanting native Egyptian troops in the army. Libyans, along with other armed foreigners, were even included in the (predominantly Egyptian) military escort of the Pharaoh.
